The former royal capital of Champasak is a gateway to the pre-angkorian temple of Wat Phu. This hillside edifice was once an important sanctuary of the Khmer Empire. You start driving from Pakse Town and spend this day exploring this ruin and admire the scenic countryside of southern Laos.
DETAILED ITINERARY
The former royal capital of Champasak is a gateway to the pre-angkorian temple of Wat Phu. This hillside edifice was once an important sanctuary of the Khmer Empire. Today we depart hotel at 8h30 and drive through the breathtaking countryside to Watphou. The temple structure was partly destroyed in turbulent history however it is still fascinating to walk among the ruins. We follow a walkway from the lower to the upper section, which features various forms including Vishnu, Shiva and Kala. The temple upper ground also affords a spectacular views from the surrounding valley to the mighty Mekong River. We also have time seeing Wat Phou Museum and Oum Moung Temple. The trip ends on arrival in Pakse.
